Vancouver still had the worst traffic in Canada last year

The GPS company TomTom has released their roundup of the world’s most congested cities last year, and once again Vancouver came out on top in Canada. Even with traffic levels down across the board, Vancouver still reigns supreme when it comes to congestion. Here’s a quick rundown.

Basically, TomTom looked at how long trips took every month, then compared that with ‘no traffic’ times. And, it turns out that Vancouver sat at around 30% last year. That’s down from 2019 (at 39%), but it still means drivers took almost a third longer, on average, to get where they want to go.

What’s more, Vancouver was the only city in Canada to crack the top 100 for congestion worldwide, at number 56. Still, we’re a long ways off from some of the world’s worst cities for traffic. You’d think that Mumbai would come out on top, but it turns out Moscow takes the crown this year, with 54% congestion.

Now, the real question is what will 2021 look like? Are people going to start taking public transit once more? Will everyone with a private vehicle be driving it? We have no idea! Guess we’re going to have to wait and see.
