When it comes to solo travel, there are a variety of risks and factors to consider before jumping into a new adventure. Crime rates, internet connectivity, medical access, and food safety ratings are just some of the criteria to read up on before booking any flights. And thankfully, that’s exactly what the travel safety index by UK’s Post Office looks at.

The Travel Safety Index for Solo Travellers uses a comprehensive list of data to help travellers plan their next solo trips.

Among exciting global destinations like Oslo and Tokyo is our very own Vancouver, which was ranked fourth on the list of the top 10 safest cities.

The top 10 are based on the following in-depth criteria:

  • Crime rate / reported crime
  • Total number of police officers
  • Internet connectivity
  • Medical institutions
  • Universal Health Coverage (UHC)
  • Road traffic mortality rate
  • World Health Organization food safety ratings

The travel index used the above data to score each country and location out of 180 points. These numbers were then compared alongside country and city populations, according to Post Office.
