Bloom with joy: Vancouver ranks among top destinations in the world for cherry blossoms

We know that summers in Vancouver are known far and wide as some of the most beautiful around, but we think springtime in the city is just as life-affirming. Every year, winter fades away and Vancouver transforms into a sea of pink, thanks to the hundreds of original cherry blossom trees gifted to the city by Japan. And it looks like we’re not the only ones who are a fan of the result.

A new list by Time Out uncovers the world’s most beautiful spots to appreciate cherry blossoms, and Vancouver made the list at #9, out of 15 global destinations.

While it’s still a little early in the season to see all of Vancouver’s cherry tree varieties, the ‘Whitcomb’ and ‘Accolade’ blossoms are already making an appearance, mostly around South Cambie, Dunbar, and Vancouver’s West End.

Time Out recommends taking a stroll at Queen Elizabeth Park, Stanley Park, VanDusen, and the downtown Burrard SkyTrain Station – all of which we’ll echo. As well, if you’re looking for some areas with less foot traffic, you can check out these stunning spots around the city.

As for other beautiful, pink-clad cities to explore, here is the full list:

  • Macon, Georgia, U.S.
  • Pingba County, China
