Massive fencing competition to bring 500 top-ranked athletes to Vancouver this week

Love watching fast-paced sports? The 2023 Vancouver Fencing World Cup is taking place this week, and you won’t want to miss it. Organized by the Government of Canada, the World Cup is a huge milestone for men and women fencers on the road to the Olympics – so guests can expect some next-level talent and technical skills at the Vancouver Convention Centre this week.

From December 7th to 10th, the event will bring around 500 top-ranked international athletes from across five continents to compete for the coveted top spots in epee fencing.

For local athletes, the Vancouver World Cup has greatly helped them develop their fencing styles, skills and motivation.

“The Vancouver World Cup is one of the inspiring factors for our young athletes,” says Igor Gantsevich, High-Performance Director of the Canadian Fencing Federation. “They can meet and see their fencing heroes at their best.”

Below are some Vancouver fencers making a name for themselves on the national and international stage:

  • Alexanne Verret: 2022 Vancouver World Cup Bronze Medalist
