The University of Washington just ranked among the top 10 best schools in the world

The University of Washington has certainly been in the news this year. Between ranking both nationally and globally, it’s been recognized as one of the top schools around. Before the end of the year our local university is getting recognized yet again for perhaps the biggest ranking of all.

U.S. News compiled its 2022-2023 Best Global Universities Rankings using 13 indicators. These indicators measure university “academic research performance and … global and regional reputations.” Schools from over 90 countries were considered resulting in 2,000 rankings.

The top 10 universities in the world are as follows.

  1. Harvard University
  2. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
  3. Stanford University
  4. University of California Berkeley
  5. University of Oxford
  6. University of Washington
  7. Columbia University
  8. University of Cambridge
  9. California Institute of Technology
  10. Johns Hopkins University

The UW came in with an overall score of 86.6, with several programs ranking among the best in the world. They include Immunology (#4), Molecular Biology and Genetics (#5), Clinical Medicine (#6), and Geosciences (#7) among others.

  • Number of highly cited papers that are among the top 1% most cited (#7)
  • Percentage of highly cited papers that are among the top 1% most cited (#24)

We’ll keep our fingers crossed fro a spot in U.S. News top 5 next year.
