Whether you want to dive into a new subject or brush up on your industry skills, it’s always worth taking a look at the free courses available in your area. In Vancouver, the University of British Columbia (UBC) and edX offer over 60 free courses across six programs that you can take this spring, from game writing to coding to ecodesign.
As a global centre for research and teaching since 1915, UBC has consistently ranked among the world’s top universities. Most recently, the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 ranked the school in 52 academic subjects — more than any other university worldwide!
Keep in mind that most of these free courses are self-paced, so you can work through the course material at your own speed. Let’s dive in!
No matter where your interests lie – it looks like UBC x edX has a little bit of everything to offer. If you’re looking for a sign to continue your education, consider this a small step in that direction that won’t hurt your wallet.
Happy learning!
