You can become an expert in Quantum Machine Learning, Behavioural Economics, Global Health, and more — all for free!

U of T’s Open Courses are free, self-guided versions of high-quality college and university-level learning material that are available any time to anyone with an Internet connection.

Many post-secondary schools offer their own Open Courses, also known as “massive, open, online courses” a.k.a. MOOCs.

The school’s Open Courses are available on two free-to-use platforms — EdX and Coursera. Both of these sites allow you to read and review the course content at no cost.

On Coursera, there are specializations that you can enroll in for free and complete online.

The specializations include Gender Analytics, iOS App Development, Self-Driving Cars Specialization, GIS/Mapping/Spatial Analysis Specialization as well as Plant Bioinformatic Specialization.

Some recommend that you have a bit of background on the subject before diving into the course, as they do get pretty in-depth.

On EdX, you can take classes for free with the option to upgrade your learning. Some of the classes still have spots available, and some will be released at a later date. Others have been archived, but you can still view the course materials.

Some of these courses are geared towards certain professionals including occupational therapists, teachers, and healthcare workers.

U of T also has a bunch of free textbooks and learning modules you can download and read at your own pace.

You can see the full list and download them here.

Happy studying, friends!
