Your next adventure awaits! What if we told you that you can journey through one of Ontario’s largest natural caves? The Tyendinaga Cavern & Caves are described as an “exploration destination” unlike any other, right off Highway 401.
Descend underground into a fascinating network of caverns and caves, filled with fossils that date back to 450 million years ago. The geo-thermal temperature control keeps the caves nice and cool during the summer so it’s a great way to escape the heat.

The limestone caves have been left completely in their original state, and the owners have taken great care to ensure that the experience is environmentally sustainable.
During your 45-minute tour, you’ll learn all about how the cavern was formed, the effects of the most recent glaciation, discoveries of new caves, bats and other cave-dwelling species, rocks, minerals, and the story about the cave’s resident ghost.
Holes in the caves allow bats to freely enter and exit, as well as hibernate in the winter.
The underground turquoise pond makes for some amazing photo ops, and you can toss a coin into it and make a wish.

Visitors are welcome to take as many photos as they wish, but touching the fossils is not allowed.
At the end of your tour, you’ll ascend the staircase back into the sunshine and have a chance to explore the gift shop, where you can pick out a few crystals to take home.
This is easily one of the most unique natural wonders in Ontario. Bucketlist-worthy, if you ask us!
