Winter is in full swing and while our feet are tired from lugging the rest of our bodies through another crazy year, we can’t wait to shove ’em into a pair of skates! This week, those looking to get their blades frosted can hit one of the two magical ice skating trails, now open within Calgary’s city limits.

Under bright lights and tall trees, North Glenmore’s 730-metre strip can be found on the north end of the reservoir. Open between 5 am and 11 pm, guests will be able to rent or bring their own pair of skates in hopes of checking it out, as long as they remain a safe distance away from other parties.

It’s important to note, however, that as of Tuesday, December 21st, all visitors must stay on the path as the hockey rink and ski trails are still closed for the season. Other amenities, such as their picnic tables, playgrounds and fire pits will be open to the public, though!

Located alongside the beautiful Bow River, Bowness’s 1.6 km track is also open to Calgarians. In addition to the loop itself, guests can also hit their cross country ski trail, hockey rink and can rent an ice bike – so check it out!

Of course, while on either sheet of ice, the city asks that you be safe, wear helmets, and skate smart.
