This old-fashioned saloon in an Alberta village was built by three NHL hockey players

Not sure where you’ll go on your next adventure?

Located an hour from Calgary, Longview is a quiet village on the Cowboy Trail, best known for being the home of Alberta’s Twin Cities Saloon.

While it certainly won’t take an entire day to explore, the old-fashioned restaurant on Morrison Road is definitely worth checking out – especially if you’re a hockey fan.

“Built by three prominent NHL hockey players, Red Dutton, Cecil “Tiny” Thompson and Paul Thompson, this establishment has stood the test of time,” they explain on their website.

“Schools, businesses and entire towns have disappeared over the years, but the spirit and resiliency of the people remain, and the Twin Cities Hotel is proof of just that.”

A nod to the two towns that were nearby in the 1930s – Little Chicago and Little New York, the Twin Cities Saloon is considered an important part of the community – often recognized as a reminder of the “rich oil and gas history in the area.”

Feeling tired after you grab a beer and a bite to eat? It’s worth mentioning that the Saloon was originally a hotel and still has 7 original rooms for rent just upstairs – so enjoy yourself!

Those who want to check it out can do so between 11:30 am and 9:00 pm every day of the week. It’s truly one of a kind.

Happy eating, Alberta!
