From mountain landscapes to quiet small town streets, Alberta has become a top destination for TV shows and movies in recent years.

2026 is shaping up to be another year packed with film production in the province, including an upcoming Netflix series.

So if you notice film crews, cameras, and trailers popping up, there’s a good chance a movie or TV show is being filmed nearby!

The Magnificent Seven (TV series)

Matt Dillon is heading to Calgary this year to film an eight-episode remake of the movie The Magnificent Seven.

Think classic western showdown scenes, horses, and a little Hollywood flair brought right to Alberta.

Cowgirl for Christmas (movie)

Alberta is getting a little extra holiday magic this year while Cowgirl for Christmas films in various locations throughout the province, such as High River, and Ranchman’s Cookhouse and Dance Hall in Calgary.

Stars like Drake Milligan and TikTok star Madison Humphrey have been cast in the movie.

The Granville Girls (Netflix series) 

Adventure and hidden romance in the Rocky Mountains?

That’s Netflix’s new eight-part series, The Granville Girls, in a nutshell. Emma Daniels takes a hotel job, navigates friendship, and tries to follow the no-dating rule, but fails.

Romance, drama, and the Rockies? Count us in.

Guarding Stars (movie)

This holiday season, Leighton Meester is on duty as a bodyguard in the new Netflix movie, Guarding Stars, and things get messy in the best way.

Between protecting a superstar and falling for trouble, this film just made Christmas a whole lot more interesting.

The IceTalker (movie)

Filming just wrapped up on The IceTalker this past February. The production was filmed in Calgary and the Rocky View County area.

As of right now, there hasn’t been any information released on the plot, casting, or genre, so we’ll just have to wait and see what’s in store!

Inhuman (movie)

This film will follow Cat Rodgers as she and her sister flee a Montana town filled with survivalists, but when a dangerous stranger shows up, Cat has to risk everything to fight back.

Inhuman is action, suspense, and thrill wrapped into one film.

From holiday movies to western showdowns and edge-of-your-seat thrillers, Alberta is proving itself to be an amazing filming spot.

So grab your popcorn and get ready to experience a little Hollywood magic in your own backyard!
