A Canadian company has just unveiled a train-like vehicle that could run through Alberta at 1,000 km/hr

Hold on to your hats because things are about to move at hyperspeed and you won’t want to lose ’em! After years of anticipation TransPod, the company behind the proposed hyperloop between Edmonton and Calgary, Alberta, has unveiled their FluxJet – a system that could transform the way we live, work, and travel.

Described as a ‘first-in-the-world, industry-defining innovation’ – a scaled-down version of the futuristic vehicle was shown in front of a live audience for the first time last month, with parts of the presentation distributed to YouTube.

Said to be fully electric and “three times as fast as a high-speed train,” the FluxJet has been designed to carry people and goods on the TransPod Line – a network that could run at 1,000 km/hr across Alberta.

As of June 2021, the Government had already given the company behind the ambitious project the go-ahead and in March (with a memorandum of understanding in place) they secured the $550 Million needed to accelerate the development of the Line.

“All the hard work over the past few years has led to this milestone moment where talk is becoming a reality,” said Sebastien Gendron, co-founder and CEO, TransPod in a press release.

“The technology is proven, and we have the confidence of investors, governments, and partners to continue pushing forward to redefine transportation effectively,”

So what’s next now that they’ve shown people what this vehicle can do?

Well, with continued support, construction on the project could break ground by 2027 creating up to 140,000 jobs and even adding $19.2B to the region’s GDP.

Technically, the project has already begun to take shape in the prairies, with preliminary building and an environmental impact assessment currently in progress – but don’t commit yourself to the idea yet!

While they’re getting closer, there’s still plenty of research, fine-tuning and demonstrating to be done.

Hopefully, though – it’ll all be worth it!

According to the company, once the TransPod Line is in operation, it could cost passengers approximately 44 percent less than a plane ticket to travel the corridor and will reduce CO2 emissions by 636,000 tonnes per year – which are all good things!
