If you’re looking for a close day trip destination from Toronto before the end of summer, the charming town of Halton Hills is calling your name. Nestled in a picturesque Southern Ontario landscape, Halton Hills is historic, but also offers its visitors everything from festivals, hikes, and family-friendly farms.
Located about an hour and a half from Toronto, Halton Hills has two urban centres that include Georgetown and Acton. It is also home to three hamlets, Glen Williams, Stewarttown and Norval, “and several smaller settlements are perfect daytrip destinations,” according to the town.
Glen Williams is considered a hidden gem in Halton Hills, and it has “a scenic artist community of art studios, cafes and restaurants, trails, local shops and heritage homes.” Definitely a stop on this day trip!
The town is also known for its experiential farms, which has everything from berry picking to pumpkin patches and corn mazes in the fall. As the town states, “immerse yourself in the full farm experience nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of our town!”
Local festivals are big in this region, bringing the community together and offering a variety of experiences to visitors. Halton Hills has hosted Farmers Markets, Head for the Hills Craft Beer Festival, and most famously the Agricultural Fall Fairs that have been running for over 100 years.
Other festivals you can catch here are the Acton Leathertown Festival, which takes place in the summer, Georgetown Fall Fair which is in September, and the Acton Fall Fair, also in September.
If you’re looking to check out the Head For the Hills: Craft Beverage Festival, that takes place on September 14th, this year.
Heading into the cold season, Light up the Hills takes place in December, along with their Holiday Market.
For an outdoor adventure, there trails and lush forest in local conservation areas that are great for hiking, with some open year round.
So whether you’re out there checking out a festival, or a farm, you can also just enjoy the town’s charming feel and local restaurants.
