An exciting new spot for tapas and tequila is turning up the heat in The Annex this spring. Toronto’s Mezcalero is gearing up for an eventful opening season, complete with a sprawling raised patio, supper club-style events, and delicious dining.

Mezcalero will be serving up a variety of traditional Spanish tapas infused with Mexican street food influence, the restaurant’s general manager Anthony Walker told Curiocity in an interview.

As for the drink menu, Mezcal will be the main feature of the bar, as well as various tequilas and cocktails designed to pair perfectly with the tapas.

The restaurant’s opening has been set for this spring and Walker says that the Mezcalero team has big plans in the works for the warmer months.

It’s situated at the heart of Bathurst St and Bloor St W, with a raised patio that can accommodate up to 80 guests. Walker says that Mezcalero will host supper club-style events on certain weekends.

Mezcalero is the third project by local restauranteur Nick Ndreka, who also owns Victory Cafe and Crafty Coyote down the street.

The restaurant will fuse modern and classic elements into its design, creating a fun contrast between old and new. The atmosphere will be lively and upbeat, with music playing at all times.

Walker says that every element of the new restaurant pays tribute to its “celebration of life” theme. Mezcalero’s slogan is “life is beautiful,” a motto that Ndreka lives by.

From what we know so far, it seems like Mezcalero is on pace to become Toronto’s new go-to spot this summer.
