Toronto’s famous Queen’s Plate Day is this Sunday & you can still get tickets

One of Canada’s “most prestigious events” is coming back this weekend and you’re invited. This historic tradition will celebrate its 162nd year running this Sunday, August 9, and spectators can enjoy the races, entertainment, and sumptuous dining packages.

The $1 million Queen’s Plate is North America’s oldest continuously-run stakes event and will showcase the top three-year-old Thoroughbred racehorses in Canada. The event is also famously fashionable, with big hats and garden party chic attire being the unofficial dress code — there’s even a style guide to help you get inspired and an entire collection of Queen’s Plate fascinators for 2021.

Pastel shades, blues, greens and fuschia are some of the colour schemes you’ll spot at this year’s event, according to Atelier Volpe designer Alyssa Celebre.

The event may be fancy, but don’t worry, the tickets are affordable. General admission is just $20 a ticket, and Grandstand seating is between $35 and $110, and seats in the Fan Zone come with a Bubbly cooler bag and other goodies. Grandstand seats are sold in groups of two, with two empty seats between them to accommodate physical distancing. The premium experience and dining packages are sold out.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the post time of the first race has been set for 12:55 p.m. at Toronto’s Woodbine Racetrack. As with any other event, face masks are required at all times unless you’re eating or drinking.

Plus, it wouldn’t be a Queen’s Plate Day without some live entertainment. The legendary Jim Cuddy and his band will perform for a limited audience at this Sunday’s event. It’s sure to be a good time!
