A weather alert is now in effect for Toronto as the city heats up to nearly 40°C

The start of summer is still weeks away, but the first heatwave of the year has already arrived. Toronto’s weather will climb into the thirties over the next couple of days and Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement with the details.

“Hot and increasingly humid weather is expected today into Tuesday,” says the statement issued on Monday morning.

“Temperatures will approach 30 today in many areas. Temperatures tonight are forecast to briefly dip into the upper teens,” it continues.

“However, maximum temperatures on Tuesday will be in the low thirties, and with forecast minimum temperatures in the low twenties in many areas, little relief from the heat is expected on Tuesday night.”

According to The Weather Network, Tuesday’s high will be 32°C but will feel like 38°C with the humidity.

Wednesday will feel like 35°C and potential thunderstorms may cool things down. According to Environment Canada, cooler air is expected to arrive on Wednesday.

The rest of the week will drop back down into the low and mid-twenties.

“These conditions pose a health risk when you are not used to the heat,” says the advisory.

“Everyone is at risk from heat, especially older adults; infants and young children; and people with chronic illnesses.”

Although Toronto’s outdoor public pools don’t open until next month, all of the city’s splash pads are now open.

You can also beat the heat at Canada’s Wonderland’s waterpark, SplashWorks, which just opened for the season this past weekend.

Stay cool out there, friends!
