June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada, and Toronto is presenting the annual Sunrise Ceremony to mark the day.
According to the City of Toronto, on Tuesday, at 5:30 am, the city will celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day in Nathan Phillips Square as an in-person event for the first time since 2019. The day celebrates the unique heritage, diversity and valued contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples.
The Sunrise Ceremony will be led by Elder Garry Sault of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, as well as feature a Water Ceremony and teachings by Knowledge Keeper Kim Wheatley and traditional drumming by Young Creek Drummers.

The ceremony will continue until 7 am.
Following that, the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto will be celebrating National Indigenous Day with free concerts at Yonge-Dundas Square, along with a “Drone Show” at Ashbridges Bay.
The Yonge-Dundas Square celebrations begin at 10 am and run until 7 pm, while the Ashbridges Bay Park celebrations take place at 8 pm until 10:30 pm.
