Toronto’s Santa Claus Parade is coming to town bringing holiday cheer

You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I’m telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town! And it’s this weekend at the original Toronto Santa Claus Parade. The beloved event is returning to give our city a huge dose of holiday cheer this November.

This parade has been a Toronto tradition since 1905 and this year, it will delight the city once again.

All are welcome to gather and witness the amazing floats make their way through the streets — with Mrs. Claus and Santa in town, of course!

According to organizers, the parade will feature an array of 27 hand-painted floats, lively bands, spirited marchers, and Celebrity Clowns.

The parade draws hundreds of thousands of spectators each year, with millions more watching from home, according to the parade’s website.

“The Parade brings people together, regardless of their background, celebrating hope, family and love,” it says.

Notable floats to check out this year are is brand-new float starring Mrs. Claus leading the North Pole’s command centre; Santa’s reconstructed float with newly animated reindeers; the debut of a Mother Goose float inspired by the Canadian goose; an Indigenous Creation Story float; a Pride Toronto float; and a Toronto Caribbean Carnival float.

Festivities begin at Christie Pits Park at 12:30 PM.

The parade then makes its way east along Bloor Street to Spadina Avenue, south on Spadina Avenue, east on Harbord Street and Hoskin Avenue, south on Queens Park Crescent and University Avenue, east on Wellington Street, south on Yonge Street to Front Street, east on Front Street and ending at the St. Lawrence Market on Jarvis Street.

According to Toronto Police, drivers may expect “significant delays and should attempt to avoid the parade route.”

The parade should take about two and a half hours and roads are expected to be reopened by 6 PM.

Here are the road closures you should expect:

• Bloor Street West, from Ossington Avenue to Christie Street, at 7 AM
• Bloor Street West, from Christie Street to Spadina Road, at 10 AM
• Spadina Road, from Bloor Street West to Harbord Street, at 10:30 AM
• Harbord Street, from Spadina Road to Queen’s Park Crescent, at 10:30 AM
• Queen’s Park Crescent, from Harbord Street to College Street, at 11 AM
• University Avenue, from College Street to Dundas Street, at 11 AM
• University Avenue, from Dundas Street to Front Street, at 11:15 AM
• Wellington Street, from University Avenue to Jarvis Street, at 11:30 AM
• Front Street, from Bay Street to Jarvis Street, at 11:45 AM
• Front Street, from Jarvis Street to Sherbourne Street, at 11 AM
