The cold plunge takes place on the first day of the year anually, with hundreds of people dipping into the waters of Lake Ontario to help raise money and awareness for Boost Child and Youth Advocacy Centre.

This year’s event will begin at noon sharp and all proceeds from the day go back to charity to help provide support for child abuse victims.

If running into freezing cold water sounds a little terrifying, the Polar Bear Dip offers some tips for the big day!

They recommend you bring a friend to mind your stuff and help you when you get out of the water, bring warm loose fitting clothes and footwear that are easy to put on in a hurry when you get out of the water, wear proper footwear, and don’t consume alcohol before entering the water.

The registration fee is $30 and there is still plenty of time to sign up! Good luck and happy polar bear dipping, Toronto!
