One silver lining of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis had to have been the ActiveTO closures in the summer. Every weekend, major streets of Toronto would be blocked off to vehicle traffic so that pedestrians and cyclists could have plenty of room to roam free. Well, now it looks like that program is on its way back. Only this time it’ll be better than ever.
Mayor John Tory just went on record saying he hopes that things will be scaled up for ActiveTO in 2021. Last summer, the closures took place on Lakeshore Blvd, Bayview Ave, and Yonge St. The hope is that this summer they’ll include other parts of the city.

These other areas of Toronto would include streets in East York, North York, and even Scarborough. That is if the local people want it, of course We can’t imagine they won’t though. The initiative was a stellar one and a much-needed resource for people to get out and about during the pandemic.
Of course, none of this is set in stone just yet. So be sure to keep an eye out for updates. According to Mayor Tory, we should expect to see a report on this year’s ActiveTO guidelines very soon. We’ll be dreaming about sunny days until then.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
