It’s finally that time! The Toronto Caribbean Carnival (also known as Caribana) has begun with a celebratory kickoff event in Nathan Phillips Square. Believed to be the biggest event of its kind in North America, Caribana will run all month long. In addition to returning events like Daylit at Cabana Pool Bar and the iconic Grand Parade, there are so many new things to see, do, and experience this year.

Here are 7 of the best events to check out in and around Toronto during Caribana 2022.

DAYLIT

This day party at Cabana Pool Bar is one of the premier experiences at Carribana. Party from day to night in the summer sunshine with skyline views all around you and the sounds of incredible music. Previous artists include French Montana, DJ Khaled and Fetty Wap, so you never know who you’ll see!

SOCA VILLAGE

This is Caribana Friday’s biggest Soca, Reggae, and Afro Beats event, so be prepared to dance! Dozens of artists will take the stage at Carnival City, an outdoor venue with a full bar and food. Performers include Nailah Blackman, Shurwayne Winchester, Nomcebo, KI, Jaxx & LVL Exodus Band, and Jadel.

KING & QUEEN SHOWCASE

Described as a “spectacular display of creativity and pageantry,” this costume showcase features over 50 elaborate large costumes centered on different themes. It also has live performances, dances, music, and food. Cameras at the ready!

SUNDAY BLOCKO

Sunday Blocko is Caribana weekend’s one and only Sunday daytime event. You’ll get to kick back and enjoy the summer sun while you dig into authentic Caribbean food. The perfect grand finale to the month’s festivities.

OSA: PAN ALIVE

This event is independently run by the Ontario Steel Pan Association (OSA), showcasing quality steel pan renditions, sounds, tone, and rhythm through a series of energetic live performances. Grab your food and drinks and support Toronto’s talented steel pan performers.

GRAND PARADE CENTRAL

This year’s Caribbean Carnival will have a brand new hub called Grand Parade Central, hosted on the Exhibition Place Grounds. There will be over 10,000 masqueraders performing in this all-day event, as well as live performances, food, and drinks. Enjoy the festival for free along Lake Shore or you can get tickets to Grand Parade Central for the “ultimate carnival experience.”

SUNDAY CARNIVAL FLAVOURS

Sunday Carnival Flavours is a brand new event at this year’s festival, featuring food and drinks from many different Caribbean islands and their local communities in the GTA. “Rediscover flavours from each of the Islands through the showcase of their favourite culinary delights, entertainment and souvenirs,” the description says. Bring your appetite!
