An enchanting torchlight parade will illuminate the Alberta Rockies & it’s free to attend

2024 has nearly come and gone, but how will you ring in 2025? This winter hit the Rockies for the iconic Torchlight Parade—a whimsical event that takes place on Mount Norquay in Banff, Alberta.

From coast to coast, Canadians will count the seconds to January 1st, but only in Wild Rose Country will you see the mountains come to life before the clock strikes twelve.

A beloved tradition celebrated by locals and visitors alike, the Torchlight Parade is truly one of a kind.

What is the Torchlight Parade?

Before others watch fireworks in big cities, adventure-seekers who head to the mountains will be encouraged to watch as the slopes of Mount Norquay lights the night.

On December 31st, 2024, the talented staff and instructors of Mount Norquay will descend from ‘The Big Chair’—a very different (but beautiful) way to celebrate the new year!

Described as “breathtaking,” this experience is held annually and should not be missed by people from far and wide.

Where to Watch

Want to check it out?

According to the ski resort (which will close its slopes at this time), those who’d like to watch as the magic happens should head to downtown Banff and look up toward the mountain.

“Bundle up with friends and family and enjoy a warm beverage as you watch this unique celebration of the season and our heartfelt thanks to the community,” they explain.

“It’s the perfect way to kick off your New Year’s festivities!”

If you agree, check it out.

It’s going to be unlike anything else in Alberta.
