This popular downtown Calgary pub has a surprisingly haunted history

It’s Halloweekend and what better way to celebrate than with a spooky story? You may never have guessed by just looking at it, but Calgary’s Rose & Crown Pub has an incredibly haunting history. You could even say that they really put the “boo” in booze (if you don’t mind bad puns, that is).

Before this hot spot was the lively place it is today, the building was used as a space to provide a much more sinister service. Completed in the 1920s, this particular building was originally a funeral home and remained as such until 1986. In fact, David & Dora Davidson, the original owners of the home (before it was anything else) both died AND had their funerals in the building.

Surprisingly, the current owners chose to keep much of the original decor including the upstairs wallpaper. They’ve even held on to many of the odd little items left behind, displaying them proudly throughout.

Now unfortunately the features that they did change or add, like the fully functional bar and new furniture, were not enough to drive away any restless “spirits.”

These ghosts include a little boy who is often seen hiding behind the furnace; a middle-aged lady who wanders the pub in a large white dress,  and a man who is believed to be her companion.

From flickering lights to strange noises, employees, the owners, and even customers have reported it all – so next time you go for a drink and get up to walk to the loo, considering bringing a friend.

You never know what, or who, you may encounter in the halls of the Rose & Crown Pub.

Happy Halloween, friends!
