We all have our favorite pizza spots in Calgary, but this brand new spot in Kensington has taken its own unique spin on the classic dish!

The Mash has found a crazy delicious way to make their homemade dough out of spent grain leftover from the brewing process at their sister facility, Half Hitch Brewing Company in Cochrane, which has made a name for itself brewing their award-winning Papa Bear Prairie Ale.

The result? A crisp on the outside, yet fluffy on the inside, crust with just a slight fragrance and hint of a flavor you’ve likely never had with your pizza before! And trust us, it works.

According to our friends at The Mash, upcycled spent grain has less sugar yet more fibre than flour, and actually has more protein than the superfood quinoa! And if the nutritional value of a pizza pie doesn’t have you convinced, then let’s talk GREEN. We had no idea before talking to The Mash that spent grain makes up a TON of brewing waste in North America if it cannot be composted or hauled away by local farmers for animal feed, ends up dumped in a landfill. These Calgary entrepreneurs have found a creative way to reduce their carbon footprint all while appealing to your taste buds!

Check out their eight unique flavours, including fan favorites like Dill Pickle & Bacon with garlic butter and a drizzle of sweet honey, smokey BBQ Chicken, and Wild Mushroom with truffle and balsamic!

For the beer lovers out there, check out their pizza and beer combos featuring a selection of local beers that pair with each of the pizza flavors OR Two Pizzas + a 6 Pack for $40. Once the restrictions lighten up they have the ultimate party pack of 5 pizzas + 24 beer for $70.
