This Metro Van city is considering a pilot for drinking in 6 public parks

Drinking in parks, it’s something that most of us have probably done at least once or twice. But in the past year, it’s been in the news a lot more due to the pandemic. And we have to say we’re here for it, after all, it really takes your picnics to the next level. On that note, yet another metro Vancouver park is considering making it a new norm.

That’s right folks, New Westminster’s city council is set to discuss a new pilot program in city parks today. The included parks are Pier Park, Moody Park, Hume Park, Sapperton Park, Port Royal Park, and Grimston Park. And like other pilot programs, drinking would only be allowed in designated areas in the park.

These parks have been chosen because of their locations, size, and amenities like restrooms. If approved, drinking would be allowed from 11 am to dusk. And the whole program would be reviewed at the end of the year to see what could be changed for the next picnic season. So if you ask us, it seems like a great idea.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed for New Westminster as we’re sure this would be a welcome change for many local parkgoers. And if you’re wondering, the only flaw in North Vancouver’s pilot was an increased cost in recycling collection. But that almost seems like it should be expected.
