This map shows you where & when to see Ontario’s magical autumn views

Fall is fast approaching, which means it’s only a matter of time before we can stroll under canopies of golden leaves. If you’re wondering when and where to see fall colours in Ontario, this map has you covered. Not only does it show you where the leaves are transforming, but it also gives you up-to-date reports about their shade so you know exactly when to plan your visit.

The map, provided by Ontario Parks, indicates all of the provincial park locations and their current fall colour report. Ontario Parks says that fall colours are traditionally on display from mid-September to mid-October, but this window can change from year to year.

The map features a breakdown of all the most recent autumn colour sightings at each park, along with details about where and when to visit for the best viewing. Right now, Algonquin Park is just at the start of its transition from summer to fall, with only 0-9% of its seasonal colour change reported so far.

There are dozens of parks to visit this fall to make the most of this vibrant season, and the legend on the righthand side of the map shows you which of them are at the optimal shade for peak viewing. According to Ontario Parks, the colour of each region is determined by averaging all parks within that area.

A trip to the park isn’t the only way to enjoy the autumn views in Ontario. You can take a steam train trip through a valley of changing leaves just north of Toronto. If you’re up for a bit of a road trip, you can go visit the 1,000 Islands Tower, an elevator that takes you to an observation deck with panoramic views of colourful forests and blue water.

And when you’re ready to dive headfirst into all things autumn, there are so many apple picking orchards near Toronto that are expecting abundant harvests this season, and you can pick pumpkins while you’re at it.
