This local photographer is on a unique mission to get a photo of every mammal in Toronto

When we think of the urban landscape that is Toronto, it’s rare that wildlife is the first thing to come to mind. But for one local photographer, Andrew Budziak, that is not the case. This talented artist is on a unique mission to capture an under-appreciated aspect of the city: its wildlife mammal population. Whew, that’s quite the undertaking!

Along with being a photographer, Andrew Budziak is a director and writer. He’s worked all over the world, from Pakistan to Bosnia, to the Philippines, Japan, Mexico, the U.K., India, the U.S., and across Canada. His work has been featured by prominent media outlets like the BBC, TVO, CBC, and the Associated Press. Safe to say he’s certainly qualified for the job!

Budziak recently sat down with CTV News to discuss his mammal-based wildlife photography project. Apparently, in capturing a photo of every mammal in Toronto, he hopes he’ll show ““just how incredible [the] animals in our city really are.”

As reported by CTV, he’s captured about 25% of the 42 mammals to call the 6ix their home so far, including groundhogs, coyotes, raccoons, deer, and more. He’s still on the lookout for animals like beavers and foxes.

This local photographer is certainly taking on quite the project! If you’d like to watch it all unfold, you can toss a follow to @andrew_budziak on Instagram or check out his official website.
