This handy tool converts your Ontario vaccine certificate into an Apple Wallet pass

Storing your Ontario vaccine certificate as an Apple Wallet pass is now as easy as 1, 2, 3, thanks to a group of tech-savvy volunteers. They’ve created a tool that walks you through the process now that the passport system is in effect, and while we wait for the province’s QR code to be released on October 22nd.

The volunteers behind the grassroots initiative consist of healthcare workers, software engineers, and students, according to CTV News. “All of us [are] quite eager to kind of do our own civic duty,” creator Billy Lo told the outlet.

The process is simple and outlined in step-by-step detail. First, you, download your official receipt from the Ministry of Health, hit the “Share” icon and then save it as a file to your iPhone.

Next, you press “Select File” and “Browse” to select the PDF file of your receipt, which you have to download directly from the provincial website. Emailed copies can’t be added to your Apple Wallet.

Finally, to import the data into your Apple Wallet, you just hit “Add to Wallet” and voila. You also have the option to save it as a photo.

The tool notes that none of your personal data is sent to the internet during this process and that 177,790 receipts have been processed since September 2nd, 2021.

As for the QR code app coming out in October, the province has stressed that only a minimal amount of your personal info is required to verify your vaccination status, and it won’t be stored in the app.

The QR code isn’t mandatory, either. You’ll still be able to use the print or digital version of your vaccine certificate even after October 22nd.

To download your vaccine certificate into an Apple Wallet pass, you can access the tool here. You’ll be able to use the tool again when the QR code comes out next month.
