This weekend we’ll be officially welcoming spring and boy are we ready for it. After a winter unlike any other, hints of warm weather are exactly what we need. Well, the East End of Toronto is celebrating the Spring Equinox in an amazing way. They’ll be holding their Light It Up Lantern Celebration on Saturday.
So what is the Light It Up Lantern Celebration? We’re glad you asked. Essentially, folks in the East End will be encouraged to DIY craft their own lantern. Then at 7:30 PM, they can head to their porches, driveways, balconies, yards, or windows to put their creation on display. If enough people in the community take part, it’s sure to be quite the sight to see.

The reason behind the use of lanterns is that the Spring Equinox is when day and night are equal and light and dark are in perfect balance. The lanterns are said to be a celebration of the return of the sun. We’ll get behind that!
Even if you’re not located in the East End, this is this a cool thing to take part in. Craft up your own lantern and put it on display. We’re sure your neighbours in whichever part of the city you’re in will appreciate it!
