We can’t exactly verify it, but there’s no doubt in our minds that a cliffside hut located in the Okanagan is in the running for the smallest Airbnb in Canada. Seriously, this spot called ‘The Shire’ is just a floating box with a bed in it. And of course, we kinda want to stay in it just for fun.

Editor’s Note: When booking travel, please be mindful of ongoing restrictions across the province. Right now BC is hoping to loosen regional travel by June 15th. For more info, head to the BC Government website.

Located on the eastern outskirts of Penticton, ‘The Shire’ is set amongst rolling hills, hiking trails and massive properties. Of course, the area is also home to some incredible wineries, making your daily picnics just that much better. A couple of lakes nearby offer an outlet for those looking to make a splash during their visit, too.

And naturally, the outdoorsy atmosphere has bled into this beautifully designed but barebones cabin/hut. Literally hanging off the side of a cliff, the building is made almost completely of reclaimed materials. Which of course makes the contemporary design and expansive views that much cooler, at least in our opinion.

Now, we won’t deny that there are some tradeoffs. First off is that the cabin is completely off-grid, which means you’ll have to pack appropriately and be ready to make a short walk to take a shower in the morning. But, we’re doubtful that people booking here care too much about 5-star amenities. Instead, we think they’ll be focused on the 5-star views.

And boy, are you going to be treated in that department. Set in the middle of nature, the floor-to-ceiling windows give you a first-rate look at the surrounding area. And if you’re lucky, you’ll even see some sheep and deer wandering around your private clearing.

Basically, we think this spot is the perfect mix of the serenity of camping and the relative ease of staying in a hotel. And while it definitely leans more towards camping, we can’t deny that it would be the perfect place to unwind for a few days.
