This $2.9 million home for sale actually sits on Calgary’s original Burns Garden

If we envy any mammal, human or otherwise, it’s the antisocial woodland creature. Squirrels, porcupines, chipmunks? They’ve got it all figured out. They eat as much as they can as often as they can, then crawl back into their grassy little nooks under the tallest trees among the bushes and the flowers.  Unfortunately, now that an opportunity to live in a home similar to that of a city-slickin’ hobbit has finally presented itself, we’re short about $3 million. 2207 Amherst Street SW, is not only Is it an absolute dream to look at, it’s also got a TON of history under its foundation.

Located in Calgary’s Mount Royal area, this 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom home actually sits atop the original Burns Gardens, created by the brother of Senator Pat Burns, an Alberta rancher, businessman, politician, and co-founder of the Calgary Stampede.

Though the site of the memorial has since been moved to Riley Park, the owners of the home have worked hard to restore and recreate the site as best as they could, and wow, did they do an incredible job.

With waterfalls, a seating area, a pond, and more greenery than an all-vert Crayola box, the yard that surrounds the home is breathtaking.

Now, of course, the house itself is also pretty cute, with a gourmet kitchen, large rooms, a theatre, and a wet bar, but it’s the landscaping that’s really the selling point here.
