A little bit of family learning for Family Day is always a nice idea. Especially when the Museum of Vancouver offers a look at both our city’s history and some of the wider context about the region itself. Pair that with temporary exhibitions, and you’ve got a full afternoon ahead of you.

If tropical birds and plants doesn’t pique your interest, then we don’t know what will. Not only is the value of Bloedel Conservatory off the charts, but its location in Queen Elizabeth park makes it easy to go for a nice winter walk either before or after your visit.

Considering its extended hiatus during the first year or so of the pandemic, we’re just happy that the Vancouver Aquarium is still on the list of major attractions in the city! But, not only that, it’s back and better than ever, with new experiences and exhibits to check out. Plus, throughout the weekend, 1 child admission is free with 1 regular admission!

In the same vein, Science World is another iconic Vancouver attraction that should be visited at least once a year. And, with free admission for those 12 and under for Family Day, maybe this is the weekend that you go and check it out. Remember folks- science rules!

Last but not least, we’ve got the Vancouver Art Gallery! Not only are they joining the free admission (for 12 and under) party, but they’re also offering a free ‘Art Detective Bag’ for the first 100 families to visit that day. Not only will this enrich your little art buff’s experience- you’ll also get some materials to make your own art at home afterwards.

Feeling a little more outdoorsy this weekend? You’ve got options there, too! The Shipyards Skate Plaza is hosting a full day of family-oriented fun, including a scavenger hunt, live music, and more! And of course, that’s in addition to the fact that you can actually, you know, go skating.

The Shipyards aren’t the only free-to-access skating rink in the area, though. For those looking for something more central, the Robson Square Ice Rink is a great choice. Especially if your pair it with a nice lunch beforehand and a little bit of family shopping afterwards.

If you’re looking for something a little more exhilarating, but not an entire day on the slopes, then tubing at Mt. Seymour might just be the move! There are actually two slopes to choose from here- one designated for tubes rented from the mountain, and another for those wanting to bring their own sleds.

Best experienced by those with older children, Lights to the Lodge is a nighttime snowshoe experience in Cypress’ nordic area! You’ll be guided by twinkling lights on a 2.5km loop that includes a stop at the Hollyburn Lodge, where you can grab some snacks and a drink to kick back a little.

Kicking yourself for missing Canyon Lights over the holidays? Don’t worry- you’ve got a brand new experience to enjoy. The Capilano Suspension Bridge has swapped rainbow for white, pink and red for ‘Love Lights’, which offers the same beauty of Canyon Lights, just in a different colourway!
