It could just be us, but somehow, music videos always manage to scratch an itch we never know we have, until we have it, and we need to watch like 5 in a row. Lucky for us, the newly released list of the top YouTube music videos in Canada for 2021 will have us grooving the day away, with (obviously) some of the biggest songs to come out this year. It doesn’t hurt that the production quality is off the charts, either…
It’s only fitting that two Canadian artists landed in the top 2 spots for Canadian viewers this year. And honestly, The Weeknd kind of pre-empted all those crazy masks used for Squid Game later on in the year. Was he supposed to be the entertainment? We sure hope so.
Right alongside The Weeknd comes Justin Bieber, featuring another Canadian name- Daniel Caesar. Full disclosure, we did not expect him to swear in the chorus of this song. But then again, we’re still caught up on the ‘Baby’ days of this superstar.
Whatever ideas that Old Town Road was going to be a one-hit-wonder were quickly put to bed with the release of Montero. We’re happy about it, since we think this groundbreaking artist has a long career ahead of him, making whatever kind of music suits his fancy.
Olivia Rodrigo really exploded onto the scene this year, amassing tens of millions of followers on a variety of social media networks. At just 18 years old, Rodrigo managed to snag back-to-back spots on this list, with some real catchy tunes that, we admit, have us thinking about high school.
BTS has become a global phenom, as the unofficial face of K-Pop around the world. It’s the fashion, it’s the dancing, it’s the seamless ability to transition between English and Korean (often in the same song). There’s a real these guys sell out stadiums no matter what country they find themselves in…
This is practically cheating, as both Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak would probably land on this list alone. But together? Recreating those silky smooth sounds of the 70s and 80s? Come on, we never had a chance with this one.
Ok, we’re actually surprised that this made it to the list. Memphis rapper Pooh Shiesty and Chicago heavyweight Lil Durk bring a barebones beat to life with this music video, and of course, it features one of the most-used ad-libs of the entire year. What can we say, except that Gucci Mane does not miss in picking new talent?
Full honesty- this is the song we personally listened to the most off this list. SZA’s gorgeous voice paired with Doja Cat’s unique style? It’s an easy yes from us. Pair that with an out-of-this-world music video that has us thinking of Fantastic Planet, and we’re sold.
Hey, another Chicago rapper on the list! Polo G may have roots in drill music, but soon adopted a melodic approach to the genre that has pushed him to the top of the charts. At just 22 years old, Polo G is really just getting started.
Those are the top YouTube music videos in Canada this year! For next year, we’re thinking maybe some Taylor Swif, maybe even Drake??? Time will tell, though!
