There’s an island full of affectionate wolves you can visit right here in Washington

Washington has a whole host of wildlife. Bears, birds, deer, whales, you name it and we have it. But something else that Washington has is Predators of the Heart, a 10-acre wildlife preserve on Fidalgo Island where you can get up close and personal with wolves. Let’s take a look.

Predators of the Heart is a sanctuary that helps all species of exotic animals who, for various reasons, find themselves without a place to live. Beyond housing all of these beautiful creatures, they also educate the public about responsible animal ownership and more. That means you can rest assured knowing that the animals at the sanctuary are in the best hands possible outside of the wild.

Now what you’re probably really curious about are those wolves! The wolves live among the sanctuaries towering old-growth forest and share the compound with cougars, bobcats, lynx, hawks, owls, and all sorts of other critters. If you want to visit them you can actually get up close and personal with two of the sanctuaries wolves, Max and Kakoa.

By booking a wolf encounter you can walk alongside Max and Kakoa in their compound with the guidance of staff. You’ll have plenty of photo ops so be sure to bring your phone and/or camera. After all, if you leave without any pics will your friends ever really believe you when you tell them you got to walk with wolves?
