There’s an exotic hot sauce sampling taking place this weekend at Eau Claire Market

Calgary has no shortage of grocery stores and markets so it takes something pretty spectacular to catch the public’s attention. From unique products to dynamite prices, YYC’s Island Foods is one of those businesses that have really set themselves apart from others and this summer they’re relaunching with a new concept, to bring you even more great specialty products!

Located in the inner-city neighbourhood of Eau Claire, Island Foods opened its doors as a small general store back in 2003. Since the beginning of the year, Island Foods has invested over $100,000 in new stock and equipment. This change comes from their desire to transform their business from a regular convenience store, into an urban market. They now pride themselves on providing an extensive selection of produce and specialty products to the city’s downtown.

They’ve expanded immensely, building an impressive inventory of meats, specialty drinks and condiments, and 200 different exotic spices, as well as a massive collection of 200 global hot sauces and other condiments sourced only from small businesses all over the world.

These guys truly believe in customer service, entrepreneurs, quality and despite also having products from (what honestly feels like) every corner of the planet, will still go to bat for their favourite locally made products and we love that!

Now, with years of experience and a loyal customer base, their revamping means getting rid of national products and brands, in order to further support local batch suppliers and make sure that what you find on their shelves, you won’t find at a national grocery chain. Exciting, right? Well, that’s not all, folks!

As if all of this wasn’t incentive enough to check them out post relaunch, they’ve also announced that starting July, they’ll be bringing in tons of new European products from countries like France, Swiss and Belgium- so get ready for even more unique finds. As Part of Island Foods Relaunch they will also be hosting a hot sauce tasting event Saturday, July 24th ‘til Sunday, July 25th 2021 where they’ll be offering 10% off on all hot sauce products, rubs, spices and BBQ sauces.

You really won’t want to miss checking them out, Calgary – after all, is there anything more rewarding than supporting a YYC-born business?
