The Vancouver Whitecaps are the only Canadian team in the MLS Playoffs

After a four-year-long drought, the Vancouver Whitecaps made it into the MLS Playoffs over the weekend! This very good bit of sports news follows a Cinderella-like regular season, which saw bad starts, big moves, and most importantly, a seriously good run. Here’s the scoop.

The Whitecaps started their regular season at their temporary home in Utah’s Rio Tinto Stadium, winning just 2 of their first 10 matches. The rocky road continued over the summer, resulting in the removal of the head coach at the end of August.

Which is right around the turning point of the Whitecaps’ season. Since then, the team has lost only one of their last 14 games, propelling them into playoff contention. And then, over the weekend, they clinched their spot with a draw against the Seattle Sounders. It was also, coincidentally, the single largest sporting event in the past two years, which we’re happy to see happen.

Now, the Whitecaps will prepare for their first playoff game on November 20th. They’ll be facing off against Sporting Kansas City (in Kansas), and will be the only Canadian team taking part this year. Broadcast details will be coming in the next few days, but we couldn’t help ourselves from sharing the good news!
