The University of Toronto nabbed a top spot in yet another prestigious school ranking

If you ask any University of Toronto student what they think of their school, you’ll get mixed reviews. Some will say that the “T” in U of T stands for tears. Others will tell you their time at the school is shaping up to be the best four years of their lives. But what they’ll all have in common, whether they like the place or not, is that they know they go to a top tier institution.

In the 193 years that the University of Toronto has been up and running, it’s always been known as one of the best schools in the country. It’s home to some of the most innovative research, the most decorated professors, and the mere size alone is incomparable. People come from all over Canada, and the world, to attend the prestigious institution. Which is why it’s no surprise that yet another list has given the school an incredibly high ranking.

So we’re talking about the annual list from the Academic Ranking of World Universities. Every year since 2003, the ARWU has been ranking the world’s top schools based on “transparent methodology and objective third-party data.” This year, the top 1000 list is presented by ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, and as you probably guessed, U of T nabbed a top spot.

So how well did Toronto’s pride and joy do? The University of Toronto ranked 1st in Canada and 23rd worldwide. It was placed 7th of all North American public universities and 12th of all public universities globally. Not too shabby!

Another Canadian university to make the list was the University of British Columbia in 38th place. Woohoo! Let’s go B.C.!

So there you have it! If you’re a high school student trying to figure out where to go to uni, or if you’re finishing up your undergrad and thinking about a masters, perhaps this list will influence your decision. We always knew smart people came out of Toronto, and now we know why!
