HBO’s Alberta shot post-apocalyptic series ‘The Last Of Us’ will no longer premiere in 2022

Starring Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian) and Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), HBO’s Alberta-filmed series The Last of Us has remained one of the most anticipated TV shows since it was first announced in 2021. Sadly though, fans looking to catch the video game adaption on the small screen will have to wait a little longer until it debuts, according to a new report.

“It’s not going to air in 2022,” HBO and HBO Max Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys told Deadline during an interview. “They are still shooting in Canada. I imagine you will see it in ’23.”

From Calgary and Edmonton to Canmore and Okoktoks, the series – which follows Joel, a smuggler as he escorts a young girl across a zombie-populated post-apocalyptic America, has been camera hopping since July of last year.

Between then and now, residents have seen some incredible sets with the promise that we’d finally get to see what it looked like behind the lens this year, but things change. Luckily, it’ll be worth it!

“I have seen some early episodes and I’m very excited,” Bloys said. “What I’ve seen looks amazing, so I’m excited for it – but it will not be in ’22.”

So, whether it be the undead action or the inevitably touching story about survival and resilience you’re most excited to see play out, we wouldn’t recommend that you continue to hold your breath for the big day.

Until then, stay cool, stay ready and stay tuned. It should only be a matter of time until we get a trailer for the Alberta-filmed The Last of Us… we hope, anyway.
