5 reasons this local BC spot is THE winter escape you’ve been looking for

Few destinations have the calibre to make their way to the top of both our summer and winter bucket lists. And the Sea to Sky Gondola happens to be one of those rare gems. The fact that it is a mere 50 minutes drive from DT Vancouver is just a brilliant bonus.

Now, as Vancouverites, we don’t really need any introduction to the Sea to Sky Gondola. It’s quite the frequented day destination come warm weather. But the place happens to live up to the Squamish reputation of being the Adventure Capital of Canada in winter as well. And here are five must-try activities that make it a legit winter paradise−

#1 Ride up the Sea to Sky Gondola

You can’t really think a trip to Sea to Sky Gondola can be complete without riding the gondola? So, hop aboard one of the gondola cabins and rise to the summit. And if the thrill of the rise is not incentive enough for you, know that the ride will give you views like none other. Expect the most insanely gorgeous views of Howe Sound, the coastal forest, and the snow-covered mountains. The ride is anything but forgettable.

#2 Snowshoe the corridor

Deep snow, white forests, a calming effect, and views that will leave you speechless! The region has everything to make it perfect for snowshoeing. In fact, you’d find it hard to resist the urge to snowshoe your way through this winter beaut.

#3 Tube downhill with the fam

One of the most thrilling activities to enjoy with the whole fam here is, of course, the good ol’ tube park. Channel your inner child as you slide down the Tube Park. Oh, the joy! Just FYI: the Tube Park is only open on weekends, as conditions allow.

#4 Embark on a backcountry ski adventure

Here’s one for experienced backcountry skiers. The region boasts of complex terrain with steep alpine bowls, first-growth forests, pillow lines, and extreme couloirs. It’s perfect for that thrilling ski adventure you’ve been craving. Sea to Sky Gondola doesn’t upload skis when avalanche conditions in the ‘South Cost’ are rated high or extreme, so be sure to check that before you plan your adventure!

#5 Take advantage of the daily après specials

Imagine this: after a long day of adventure, you settle down at the outdoor patio (or indoors by the fire) of the Summit Lodge hanging with friends, grab a Famous Gondola Caesar, unwind and take in all the amazing views as you do so. Honestly, if you go there just to relish the après, we’d understand. No judgement!

Whether you’re hunting for your next winter adventure, looking for fun things near you, or simply have had a bit much of the city, the Sea to Sky Gondola ought to be your next trip.
