New aerial footage shows just how massive HBO’s Alberta-shot ‘The Last Of Us’ sets really are

Up close, personal, and from every angle on the ground – fans have been spoiled with behind-the-scenes footage from HBO’s Alberta-shot series, The Last Of Us  – but now we’ve got eyes in the sky, casting a spotlight on the true scale of such a major production.

In a new video taken by local drone photographer @nickc0yne, vehicles and barricades can be seen littered through the alleyway between 10th and 11th avenue on 3rd street SE in downtown Calgary over the weekend.

While the little details may be lost at the height in which the reel was taken, the size and effort that they’ve put into transforming the block into an apocalyptic wasteland are apparent – and impressive to say the least!

Another Alberta town to get apocalyptic make-under for HBOs ‘The Last Of Us’

Based on the ultra-popular videogame, The Last Of Us will chronicle the lives of Joel, a smuggler, and Ellie, a young girl that he’s tasked with escorting across post-apocalyptic America years after a mutating fungus infects most of society.

Shot entirely here in Alberta, the all-star cast, which includes the likes of Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Narcos) and Bella Ramsey (Game Of Thrones) has already taken to Canmore, High River, Edmonton, and Calgary in preparation for a 2023 release date.

As you can imagine, with HBO as the driving force behind the series, the hype and outpouring of love for the original material have been overwhelming – so we can’t wait to finally see it take the small screen!

Until then, keep your eyes open! You may never know when or what you might see while they continue to film The Last Of Us in and around Alberta.
