This iconic late-night Toronto diner has reopened & here’s what to know

One of the city’s favourite go-to spots for a late-night bite is officially back in business. The Lakeview Restaurant has been a Dundas West mainstay since 1932, and as you can imagine, the city was heartbroken when the 24-hour diner announced its closure earlier this year.

As it turns out, the closure was only temporary. The Lakeview has spent the last several months revamping its dining space and menu, in collaboration with a new head chef.

Now, the diner has officially reopened to the public. It’s clear that its offerings have been elevated and the restaurant has a shiny new look and feel, but the Lakeview wants you to know that it is still serving up breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night snacks.

“Happy to announce the next step in what has been a staple in Toronto for over 90 years,” the restaurant announced on Instagram.

Photos shared on Instagram show glimpses of the new menu offerings, including whitefish terrine, beef tartare, Miami ribs, fried snapper, and crab pasta.

After many years of serving up diner classics like peameal bacon sandwiches, it looks like The Lakeview has grown up.

Fans of the restaurant are beginning to share their thoughts on Instagram.

“Is the menu going to come back? Disappointed to see it no longer has a ‘diner’ menu,” reads one comment.

“But no actual diner food and $30 entrees. Disappointing turn of events [to be honest],” says another.

However, there are plenty of folks who are excited that the Lakeview is back and open for business.

“Wow I’m going to eat here every day for the rest of me life,” one person wrote.

Welcome back, Lakeview. Toronto just isn’t the same without you!
