There’s a new café coming to Seattle’s Golden Gardens Park! Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) made the announcement, stating that The Kite Café is slated to open there this spring.

According to SPR, they selected the vendor following a Request for Proposal process that closed in October, and selected the concessionaire “who best demonstrated the ability to provide innovative, affordable, healthy, safe, and reliable food service to park patrons while paying reasonable concession fees to SPR.”

Locally owned by Tony Meyer and Matt Kelley, The Kite Café is described as a beachside counter-service cafe and concessionary, supporting park-goers with east-coast style sandwiches, salads, drinks, and snacks, says the SPR.

“The Kite Café aims to bring nourishing community-driven food experiences to Seattle parks, starting with Golden Gardens. As life-long members of the Ballard community, Tony and Matt are committed to being stewards of Golden Gardens, a beach and park where they grew up,” they state.

The new cafe’s goal is to make food from local ingredients, as well as offer a diverse menu with healthy options. It is also aiming to provide a welcoming space, along with job and training opportunities for youth.

The Kite Café at Golden Gardens is set to open in May.
