“Guess who’s back?” states an announcement on social media by The Handmaid’s Tale. The Hulu show, famously filmed in Ontario, is in production for its final season. And to celebrate, we look back at its past filming locations in Ontario!

When is the next season of The Handmaid’s Tale returning?

According to Hulu, the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale will return in spring 2025.

“Adopted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States,” reads Hulu’s description of the series, which stars Elisabeth Moss as the lead.

The series premiered back in 2017, with the fourth season ending on November 9th, 2022.

During those years, the show filmed in many Ontario locations.

A look back at some of The Handmaid’s Tale filming locations 

Cambridge, Ontario

The City of Cambridge states that it “plays a huge role in this critically acclaimed, Golden Globes and Emmy Award winning series based on Canadian author Margaret Atwood’s award winning novel. In fact, Cambridge is one of the primary backdrops for the fictional Republic of Gilead. Check out the various set locations around the city.”

  • Cambridge City Hall
  • Brant Road North
  • Queen’s Square Fountain
  • Monigrams Coffee Roasters

  • Central Presbyterian Church

Toronto, Ontario

Those in Toronto will remember the excitement of seeing some of the filming around the city, particularly at City Hall. But where else did they film?

Here’s where The Handmaid’s Tale filmed in Toronto for past seasons, as per Destination Ontario:

  • Toronto City Hall
  • Ripley’s Aquarium
  • St. Lawrence Market
  • Beanfield Centre in Toronto’s Exhibition Place

Hamilton, Ontario

Another filming location provided by Destination Ontario is Hamilton! They state that Hamilton’s Desjardins Canal was used for a “boat smuggling” scene.

Brantford, Ontario

The City of Brantford also hosted several filming locations including:

  • 440 Paris Road
  • 399 Wayne Gretzky Parkway
