The first official image of HBO’s Calgary-shot The Last Of Us was just released (PHOTO)

Filming for HBO’s The Last of Us is in full swing here in Calgary and up until now, we’ve managed to steer clear of all spoilers and more importantly any expectations. This week, however, fans (and casual Instagram scrollers) may have gotten their first official sneak peek of the highly anticipated TV show – not from someone lurking on set, but from Naughty Dog, the company that developed the adapted video game.

Now, we’re not going to lie. After hearing that this particular show could be the most expensive in all of history, we immediately assumed that the first true teaser we would get would be a scene mid-explosion, gunfight, or torrential downpour – but that’s not what we saw here.

Though there will likely be much chaos throughout the series, this particular shot – confirmed by HBO and Naughty Dog president Neil Drunckmann as the first look of the show, is actually pretty serene – despite the plane wreck in the distance, which was hardly the focal point.

Instead, our eyes went right to the back of the heads of our protagonists – who were instantly recognizable as main characters Joel and Ellie, who, together are trying to escape a post-apocalyptic America.

For those who are unfamiliar, when The Last of Us video game first debuted in 2008 and sold 17 million copies worldwide. Naturally, there’s a whole lot of pressure on everyone working on this show for it to be perfect.

With a cast list that includes Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey from Game of Thrones and a filming location like Calgary, how could they possibly strike out?

If you’re like us and can’t wait to see what all the buzz is about, it won’t be long! As of right now, The Last Of Us is expected to hit the small screen in 2022, though an exact date has yet to be released.

Until then, keep your eyes open if you live in and around Calgary, and let us know if and when you bump into anyone notable. Who knows what could happen!
