Vancouver’s getting the world’s tallest ‘passive house’ building & it includes rooftop amenities

Thanks to Canadian real estate developer Brivia Group, a massive new residential building is planned for Vancouver’s downtown this year. The eco-friendly landmark will be located on Thurlow and Nelson, and is set to be the world’s tallest ‘passive building’ at 60 storeys and 501 units!

The Montreal-based developer said that the Curv project will mirror the “environmental ethos of the city of Vancouver” in a curved tower that resembles the shape of a new shoot, a “symbol of regrowth and environmental hope.”

So in short, the building will be the most energy-efficient structure of its kind. And yes, it will definitely stand out in your next skyline pic from False Creek.

The project marks the first in North America for world-renowned architect Tom Wright, who is known for his work in Dubai on the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab.

He and interior designer Andres Escobar designed the Curv with self-sufficiency in mind. The building will use its own energy to fuel improved insulation, softened sound transmission, and ultra-filter air. In other words, adios noise pollution and loud neighbours!

Also in the plans are sustainable rooftop gathering areas including a children’s play area, hot tub, lounge, and BBQ dining area.

Of course, the near-zero emission requirements of building passive housing mean that the Curv homes will likely be very expensive. It’ll be a couple of months before we know just how pricey, though!

If pre-sales go well, the project will begin construction this year. You can pre-register on their website today for the latest property details.

Check it out, Vancouver!
