Jr. Astronomers, enthusiastic sky gazers and date idea seekers, it’s finally here! Showcasing approximately 15 ‘shooting stars’ per hour, the year’s most spacetastic event is finally here. Of course, no thanks to all of our darn light pollution, you’ll need to position yourself just right to catch a glimpse of it when it peaks Friday, October 21st so we’ve put together a list of the best places in and around Calgary to watch the stunning Orionids meteor shower!

Live in the North? Lucky you! You’re only minutes away from another fantastic place to see the shower! A 37-minute drive from Calgary’s city centre, Keoma Public Fields will give stargazers a brilliant view of the sky and everything in it.

Don’t want to drive too far from home Just outside the city limits, Calgarians will find the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area. This 4,800-acre day-use natural area protects habitats, provides space for animals AND has a pretty good view of the sky.

Like Keoma, Several areas in and around Bragg Creek will do just fine for those looking to sneak a peek at this year’s meteor shower. The best part? Clocking in at just under 40 minutes, It’s not a terribly long drive either.
