The Bentway is being transformed into an interactive art & play park this summer

One of Toronto’s most interesting public spaces is being reimagined this summer as part of an exciting upcoming public art display. Playing In Public is taking over The Bentway, with an interactive exhibit exploring the history and future of play.

All summer long, you can head on down to the public park under the Gardiner Expressway to explore works created by a variety of artists, educators, technologists, planners, and community organizers. Installations will begin popping up as early as next week, with the entirety of the exhibit available to enjoy in early July.

The program is set to include 8 art installations, a connective Play Path, roaming and audio experiences, and more. Playing in Public will be spread out throughout The Bentway and beyond, into nearby areas like local parks and sidewalks throughout Fort York, CityPlace, Niagara, and the Waterfront.

Each installation was designed to be integrated with, aka “playable,” in a COVID-19 safe way. Works were created by talented artists and designers, including Daily tous les jours, Esmaa Mohamoud, Assemble, Studio F-Minus, Thomas Mailaender and Erik Kessels, Pierre Poussin, The Street Society, and Nelson Wu and biosphere.

So, be sure to pencil in a trip to The Bentway this summer. Between this and Retro Rolla, we’ve got a feeling the area will be one of the most popping spots in town!
