Hockey Canada, you have made us proud, yet again!

Of the many stereotypes we have north of the border, the one we Canadians embrace wholeheartedly is our absolute love for hockey (and for Timmy’s). Naturally, it was a very proud moment for us Calgarians when the city became host to the 2021 IIHF Women’s World Championship where the puck dropped last Friday. Thrilled as we are to host, and even catch a few games at the WinSport Arena, Hockey Canada spiced things up a bit with the 50/50 online raffle.

Giving Albertans a chance to win, Hockey Canada is running the 50/50 online draw all through the length of the 31-game tournament. The online draw takes place every time team Canada plays, which is on all even-numbered dates, Aug 31 being the only exception. The raffle, which runs Alberta-wide, is open every day from 9 am to 10 pm MDT.

Here comes the second proud moment− the 50/50 draw is part of Hockey Canada’s Make Hockey More initiative. All proceeds from the raffle stay in Alberta and will be used to better the women’s game. The two draws that have taken place so far have already raised $250,000!

Now, that’s what we call a win-win situation!

FYI, the raffle pot is increasing by the minute. In the few minutes that it took for us to write this piece, the raffle went from early 5000s to late 20,000s (we swear it’s not an exaggeration).

Good luck Team Canada, and good luck Calgary!
