Texas Longhorn Ranch
Grab your cowboy boots and giddy up! If you’re looking for a taste of that western cowboy lifestyle, then this Ontario ranch might just be for you.
Looking extremely similar to a classic scene in a John Wayne movie, Texas Longhorn Guest Ranch in Strathroy, Ont., is a self-described adults-only playground, where cattle ranch dreams melt into a cozy B&B along the Sydenham River.
Enjoy a unique stay in six restored wagons, complete with covered roofs, plush beds and an accompanying patio hangout. A family-run business that prides itself on offering tranquillity against the wide open sky, the heart of this ranch is always centred around the cows.
Texas Longhorn cattle roam the property just a short distance from your wagon, and these cows come from a prized breed. According to Texas Longhorn Guest Ranch, its cattle descend from a federal herd of purebred longhorns from the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in Oklahoma.
So what’s so special about longhorns? Despite being the quintessential symbol of Western cowboy life, these gentle giants are truly remarkable and can survive severe climates, swim rivers, fend for themselves, and go long distances without water. Originally introduced to North America via Spain from Christopher Columbus, longhorns are a truly unique kind of cow.
Okay… back to the ranch. Designed to be a little slice of heaven, there are no TVs or loud music, plus pets and children are not allowed, guaranteeing relaxation no matter what. Be sure to check out the ranch’s 50×100 metre gigantic swimming pool, wagon tours, and mini golf course.
Dinners and breakfast are provided by the ranch owner’s Gail and Fred, who are known to fix up killer plates of delicious BBQ chicken, steak, salmon, and even some juicy Texas Longhorn burgers.
Whether it’s waking up to morning birdsongs, posing for selfies with longhorn cows, or just staring up at the stars, Texas Longhorn Guest Ranch can be your next great escape.
