You won’t need to venture far to enjoy the good old outdoors in Toronto. Taylor Creek Park is a small yet wonderful outdoor adventure for those wanting to stretch their legs and embark along a trail. Surround yourself with the beauty of the outdoors and check out its newly decorated bridge – here’s what to know about Taylor Creek Park.
According to the City of Toronto, this park is an ideal space for a lovely stroll or biking adventure. There are many paths through the park that can be explored.
“This is a linear park that begins at Don Mills Road in the west and wanders to Dawes Road in the east,” shares the city.
According to the Toronto Nature Stewards, most of the park is protected as ecologically significant. You’ll find several rare and sensitive native species here.
Besides the abundance of nature, the park has trails that run alongside the creek and bridges to enjoy.
And one of those bridges recently got a new look.
Toronto’s inaugural Artist In Residence, Maria Hupfield has installed Nkweshkoodaadidaa Ekobiiyag as part of her residency.
According to the city, the new public artwork has transformed a Taylor Creek bridge into an art destination and meeting place. It’s new name translates as a request to “meet me by the water.”
“Yellow paint has become a signature colour used throughout my work. When applied to the wooden armatures and support structures that display my creations the bright colour renders them easy to navigate when further activated in live performances,” said Hupfield.
“By painting the bridge, I seek to focus on the people who use the bridge, the bridge itself, and the site as essential elements in meaning, making and the creation of public artwork.”
The bridge trails over a creek and that in itself is definitely picture-worthy.
Nonetheless, take some time out of your busy schedule to be one with nature and explore what Toronto has to offer.
